Meesho shows you a final figure inside your supplier panel; this page explains the courier maths that sits behind that kind of charge. A light but bulky parcel is billed on its size, which is why big boxes cost more than sellers expect.

How volumetric weight works
Couriers charge for the space a parcel occupies, not just its mass. The standard formula is:
Volumetric weight (kg) = (Length × Width × Height in cm) ÷ 5000
A 40 × 30 × 20 cm box is 24,000 cubic cm, which is 4.8 kg volumetric — even if the contents weigh 900 g. You would be billed at the 2–5 kg rate, roughly ₹156–₹260 instead of ₹72–₹108. Reducing that box to 35 × 25 × 10 cm brings volumetric weight to 1.75 kg and moves you down a full bucket.
Three ways to pay less
- Shrink the box before you shrink the product. Volumetric weight is cubic — taking 5 cm off each side of a 40 × 30 × 20 parcel cuts volumetric weight by nearly half.
- Watch the bucket edges. A parcel at 510 g is billed in the 500 g – 1 kg band. Removing 15 g of packaging can move it into the cheaper band for every future order.
- Check the listing rather than assuming. The shipping figure shown against a listing is not always the lowest one available for that product. Across thousands of anonymised seller scans, the gap between the cheapest and dearest figure recorded for the same product averaged ₹14 per shipment.

Is this the exact rate Meesho will charge me?
No — it is an estimate. The rate ranges here come from rate cards observed across many sellers. Your final figure depends on the courier assigned, your pickup and delivery pincodes, and your seller tier. Meesho always shows the exact rate in your supplier panel before you confirm.
Why is my shipping cost higher than the product weight suggests?
Almost always volumetric weight. If your parcel is large but light, you are billed on its size instead of its mass. Enter your dimensions above and the calculator will show which of the two is being charged.
What divisor is used for volumetric weight?
5000 is the standard divisor across Indian courier partners: (L × W × H in cm) ÷ 5000 gives the volumetric weight in kilograms. Some couriers use 4000 for specific service types, which makes bulky parcels cost more still.
Does the calculator include returns or RTO charges?
No. This covers forward shipping only. Return-to-origin is charged separately when a customer refuses delivery or returns an item, and it varies by category and by your return rate.
